Secondary Audience Research

For the secondary audience research, I have decided to research Paranormal Activity because this is a horror genre movie and this is what genre film I would like to recreate.

The comparable profile for Paranormal Activity says that both male and females watch paranormal activity, however 1% more males watch it than females, this may be because they stereotypical males like the horror genre more than films as they like more paranormal than the typical female. The age range of the audience shows that 69% of the audience watch the film who are 15-24 years of age, this may be because they are either in education or starting off in their career therefore this may allow them to have a lot more time to watch films. Only 2% of the audience is 45+ years old, this may be because they are well into living their lives therefore they may want to watch more non-fiction films rather than fictional films like the horror genre. Only 15% of the audience are in the upper class band, this is very low compared to the other classes, this could be because they are usually well educated therefore they may want to watch more non-fictional films that include a lot of facts rather than fiction. This is because they are too well educated to believe in all the paranormal. The most common class to watch this film is the middle class, this is because they have a job but they still may have free time to watch films therefore they may decide to watch fictional horror films to escape from the busy working life they have.

Any of the horror genre films have 15 age rating, this is where no-one under 15 is allowed to see a 15 film at the cinema or buy/rent a 15 rated DVD.
A 15 rating movie may contain:
  • strong violence
  • frequent strong language
  • portrayals of sexual activity
  • strong verbal references to sex
  • sexual nudity
  • brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
  • discriminatory language or behaviour
  • drug taking
I created a BBFC certificate to help me with my final BBFC certificate for my film.
